Specifying a rough- or medium-vacuum pump usually comes down to two proven oil-sealed technologies. Both have been in service for the better part of a century, both are positive-displacement machines, and both will pull a chamber down reliably. Yet the day-to-day experience of owning each one is very different. A rotary vane pump places an eccentrically mounted rotor inside a cylindrical stator.
